Re: FEBRUARY 2018 - Will we have snow three months in a row?

Not going to spend a great deal of time on the February Outlook the next few days, but I am seeing some interesting 'hints' at many levels that certainly could offer potential for much colder air arriving near February 7th or so. As we know our atmosphere is connected to so many different features a...

Re: JANUARY 2018 - Warming Trend Begins/Will It Last Long?

Looks like we will have a marginal risk of a skinny line of showers and thunderstorms in the wee hour of tomorrow morning as the Pacific front advances across our Region there is a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms NE of Metro Houston, but better dynamics will be well NE of our Region as a potent...

Re: JANUARY 2018 - Warming Trend Begins/Will It Last Long?

The very long range 12Z ECMWF EPS and its 51 individual ensemble members suggest a big Eastern/NE Pacific Ridge extending into Alaska and another Ridge across the Arctic Circle with a very deep upper level full latitude trough extending from Northern Canada to the NW Gulf Coast. Such a pattern could...

Re: JANUARY 2018 - Warming Trend Begins/Will It Last Long?

Well, this could ( only could..) raise some eyebrows as Srain would say. okay can you explain what this picture is showing - please? The Japanese model suggests the first shot of Canadian Air around January 27th or so might be rather robust. I stated earlier this week that the various computer mode...

Re: JANUARY 2018 - Warming Trend Begins/Will It Last Long?

What do the models tell us for early Feb? Way too soon to know the finer details in a highly volatile pattern for the Global Models to resolve over the next 10+ Days. The Day 11 CPC GEFS Super Ensemble Blend suggests a huge blocking pattern across the Artic into the N Pacific with a trough in the W...

Re: JANUARY 2018 - Warming Trend Begins/Will It Last Long?

Went from 23F at 1:00 to 28F at 7:00 AM with the blanket of clouds moving in earlier than expected in NW Harris County. Could see temperatures struggle to reach 40F today for some areas. Enjoy the warmth coming because it may be a distant memory come early February.

Re: JANUARY 2018 - Warming Trend Begins/Will It Last Long?

I remember late last week there was a model that predicted precipitation on Thursday morning. The clouds down south coming our way tonight is that what the model picked up on? The dynamics were much stronger in the Upper Levels last week when some of the guidance suggested a wintry mix tonight and ...

Re: JANUARY 2018 - Warming Trend Begins/Will It Last Long?

I noticed some clouds approaching from our SW while out running errands. That may limit some of the lowest forecast low temperatures for some areas. Looking at the afternoon Updated Climate Prediction Center Outlooks and analogs, it appears our next best first shot of some colder air arrives around ...
