Re: December 2017: Christmas Cold / Ice Across Texas?

We have an active and very progressive weather pattern setting up over the next week and likely beyond as folks start the Christmas Holiday period along with many with travel plans. Radar shows a lot of activity over the Gulf this morning associated with our noisy sub tropical jet and embedded dist...

Re: December 2017: Christmas Cold / Ice Across Texas?

Well this partially explains the anomalous EPO in the mid and long term https://twitter.com/RyanMaue/status/941454324143714304?s=17 The Gateway could open this year. IIRC, CC altered upper level flow around the equator that prevent jailbreak of a huge Siberian dome of frigid air. We were left hot a...

Re: December 2017: Christmas Cold / Ice Across Texas?

The American model (GFS) has been predicting another cold outbreak for around the 24th, possibly with sub-freezing air at the surface along with precipitation. However, the GFS shows well above freezing temps just above the surface, which would indicate sleet/freezing rain vs. snow. Keep in mind th...

From last night:

There's still patches snow on the ground and north side of roofs...but not much. Fluffy snow melts fast!

Re: December 2017: Pattern Change/Much Colder Weather Possib

Down to 32F now in NW Harris County. Snow is sticking to everything but the roads. All rooftops, grassy surfaces and cars covered with about an inch of snow that continues to fall. It's amazing what precip from a cold column can do, and quickly. Snow bands are getting thicker and closer together. 6...

Not bad, considering. The Meso band cranked up about 35 miles north of predicted. Night's not over yet. Most of the HGX area turned to snow. https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis/models/gem/2017120700/gem_asnow_us_8.png https://s7.postimg.org/620bbasgb/snowmap.png

The map now looks like the Canadian model from last night - within about 30 miles of getting the band of snow just right.

Re: December 2017: Pattern Change/Much Colder Weather Possib

Going back the past 24 hours... GFS/NAM only had about half an inch or less of snow here in SE TX yesterday/last night. This morning models were only showing about an inch for our area. Models this afternoon started showing about 1-2 inches. 18z runs tonight were aggressive in showing 2-3 inches. S...

We're still in the middle of the band, sinking SE.
